A little story how i got this 2CV
We were driving through the countryside in the south of France on a small D —departementale— road that connect the smaller villages. Suddenly we notice a horn sound behind us and flashing headlights. Who is that lunatic behind us, rushing and pushing up our rear bumper? It was Pim.
Pim is a friend of mine who moved to France with his family and we are on our way in our red 2CV6 Spécial to visit them in a summer in 2001.
He knew we were supposed to arrive that evening, and as he returned from the village for some shopping, he noticed us, driving in the little red 2CV. That's when he decided that he wanted to own a 2CV as well. Living in the French countryside, being an artist (painter, musician) you have to drive around in something special.
So a few months later he bought a 2CV for himself, Inspired the sight of by us driving our little car. He bought it in a bar from a guy who wanted to get rid of it easily. The car was from 1963, the year Pim was born. It was meant to be. It was a 15hp model, just in between the 12hp up to 1963 and before the 18hp model from April 1963. Resprayed by a previous owner from grey blue to light "vanilla" yellow.
A few years later we were visiting him again during our holidays. The 2CV was parked in the backyard. What's wrong with your car? It makes a weird sound, I'm not sure it ok. We checked it, made a test drive. Weird sounds from the gearbox. I wasn't into repairing gearboxes back then (still not a pro) so I advised him to take it to a specialist.
Another few years passed. We returned again. The 2CV was still there. We suggested to trade it for an Apple G4 power Mac computer. The car was transported to the Netherlands and Pim got a working computer. Finally...
Then suddenly it is 2021 and the 2CV has been in storage for years and years. I have decided to resurrect it. Let the restauration begin!
it turned out to be a lot more work than I expected, but as I write this, the car is almost ready for its road/identification check by the Dutch road authorities. Read the adventures for more details about the restauration.
